The Rome City School Board has approved the hiring of a contractor for an additional at East Central Elementary School.
The work will include a five-classroom addition.
Two bids were received – one from J & R Construction, and the other from SmithBuilt Construction.
The bids were scored by a six-member committee; according to Rome City School System Maintenance Director Tim Williams.
“The average score for J & R Construction was 9783, and the average for SmithBuilt was 9129,” Williams said. “J & R’s base bid was $4,920,375 and SmithBuilt was $4,950,000. In this, we have six alternates. I can’t say which of those we will do because it’s going to depend on what we get back for the West End project.”
The school board approved the bid from J & R Construction.
Bids for the eight-room classroom addition at West End are set to be opened on March 30.
In addition, meetings are planned with the contractor and architects for the new Rome Middle School project as the design phase gets underway.
