Gordon County Coroner passes away

The Gordon County Board of Commissioners has announced that Coroner James Franklin Carver passed away on Monday (June 26th, 2023).

Mr. Carver has served Gordon County as the Coroner since 1976.

During this time Mr. Carver served in various roles in the Georgia Coroner’s Association including the implementation of the Georgia Coroner Training Council Board. Mr. Carver also served the families of Gordon County through Max Brannons Funeral Home from 1967 to 2016.

The Board of Commissioners wishes to express its deepest sympathy to Mr. Carver’s friends and family.

Commission Chairman Bud Owens states, “Mr. Carver served the citizens of Gordon County in this office for the past 47 years, an outstanding long-time record of service and caring. We will remember him for his dedication, skills, and compassion. He will be missed.”

In accordance with Georgia Code 45-16-2 (b), Probate Judge John R (Richie) Parker will “appoint a person to serve out the unexpired term of office and until his successor shall be duly elected and qualified”. Judge Parker will make the appointment on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at 9:00 a.m.

A general primary election will be held on May 21, 2024, with qualifications beginning on Monday, March 4, 2024, at 9 a.m. until March 8, 2024, at noon.
