The Rome City Commission has approved the transfer of property on Maple Avenue to the Northwest Georgia Housing Authority, which has plans to open an early learning center.
The .44-acre parcel is located just south of the Floyd Training Center.
“Currently, the property is overgrown,” said Rome City Commissioner Jim Bojo. “It has not been utilized by the city or anyone else in many, many years.”
According to Bojo, the plan is for the early learning center to be similar to the one in Rockmart.
“I have had the opportunity to go down and tour that facility,” he said. “It is extremely nice for the kids.”
Again, the city commission voted to approve a recommendation from the redevelopment committee to transfer the parcel to the housing authority.
