Report: Man tried to abandon dog

A homeless man was arrested at Floyd County Public Animal Welfare Services last week on a misdemeanor count of abandonment of a dog.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

20-year-old Sean Matthew Creese attempted to surrender his dog at PAWS before tying it to a tree in an attempt to abandon it.

He was also found driving with a suspended license in a vehicle with suspended registration.

Man charged with theft by taking a motor vehicle

An Armuchee-area man was jailed last week on auto theft charges.

According to the arrest warrant:

49-year-old Ricky Shane Purdy took the victim’s vehicle on May 10 and refused to return it.

He is charged with a felony count of theft by taking a motor vehicle.

Two accused of selling a stolen vehicle

Two men have been arrested on felony warrants charging them with theft by taking a motor vehicle.

According to the warrants:

72-year-old Oliver Hight and 61-year-old Donald Ray Whatley sold the victim’s vehicle while the victim was incarcerated and then kept the money.

The incident occurred between February 4 and July 7.

The value of the vehicle was listed at $6,000.

Man arrested on drug charges following traffic stop

A Rome man was arrested following a traffic stop in East Rome late last week.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

An officer initiated the stop on a vehicle driven by 45-year-old Waschunn Keyatta Wofford Sr. on Maple Road near East 12th Street for a window tint violation.

Wofford was also charged with possession of hydrocodone, tampering with evidence, possession of drugs not in the original container, failure to stop for emergency vehicles, and a probation violation.

Man charged with simple battery, public indecency

A 42-year-old Rome man was recently arrested after allegedly running through his neighborhood while completely naked.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Todd Nicholson Van Leuven, of a Margo Trail address, also punched an emergency medical services worker in the face.

Van Leuven is charged with public indecency and simple battery.
