Rome City Commission meets Monday

The Rome City Commission will conduct a third and final public hearing before a vote to set the millage rates when they meet Monday night.

The proposed rates are 7.8 for city maintenance and operations, down from 8.0 in 2022; city capita1 is proposed at 1.8, down from 1.826; and the proposed rate for city schools is 16.85, down from 17.25 last year.

The combined rate of 26.45, down from 27.076 will mean about $37 less for a $150,000 home with no exemptions. 

The city commission meeting will begin at 6:30 pm at Rome City Hall.

The caucus begins at 5 pm and will include an update on the middle school project from Rome City School Superintendent Eric Holland. 

In January, the commission voted unanimously to back approximately $103 million in bonds to construct the new middle school which will be located across the road from the current campus on Veterans Memorial Highway.
