Report: Woman tried to stab another woman in the face

A Rome woman was arrested on a felony aggravated assault charge following an incident Thursday at the high-rise on North Fifth Avenue.

According to Floyd County Jail records and a Rome Police report:

64-year-old Bridgette Yvette Burgin pulled out a knife and attempted to stab a 45-year-old woman in the face.

Security camera footage showed Burgin thrusting the knife at the victim.

Burgin told police that someone had been hacking her cell phone and that someone had been putting chemicals in her shampoo, causing her hair to fall out.

Burgin also stated that she had called 911 because she thought her life was being threatened and needed assistance from the FBI.

Traffic stop, search warrant lead to drug arrests

A traffic stop for a brake light violation on Shorter Avenue at Coosawattee Avenue Thursday ended with a drug bust.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

The vehicle driven by 20-year-old Darrius Marquis Bradford was searched after a K9 indication and more than an ounce of marijuana in multiple baggies was located, along with a firearm that had been reported stolen in another county.

Meanwhile, a search warrant was executed at Bradford’s residence on Melody Lane, and police found 21-year-old Avery Michael Woods in possession of THC wax, THC containers, suspected oxycodone, a firearm, and a large amount of marijuana that was stored in the trunk of a vehicle.

Bradford is charged with drug trafficking, possession of controlled substances, felony possession of marijuana, possession with the intent to distribute, possession of dangerous drugs, theft by receiving stolen property, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of drug-related objects, and reckless conduct.

Woods is charged with possession of controlled substances, felony possession of marijuana, possession with the intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of drug-related objects.

Man accused of fighting police

A Rome man is accused of fighting with three police officers as he was being arrested on North Broad Street at Duke Street Thursday.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

25-year-old Harold Joseph Hunley Jr. damaged a body cam and a pair of sunglasses as he tried to escape.

Hunley also hit an officer in the face, causing the officer’s lip to bleed.

Hunley’s was initially stopped for running a red light on North Broad at Turner McCall.

A firearm and an open bottle of tequila were located in the vehicle.

Hunley was also wanted on probation violation warrants.

He is charged with felony obstruction, simple battery on a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, interference with government property, open container, and failure to obey a traffic control device.

A passenger in the vehicle, 36-year-old Stefan Antonio Clemmons of Rome, was also arrested and charged with open container and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Man charged with aggravated battery, animal cruelty

A 32-year-old Rome man has been arrested on a felony warrant charging him with aggravated battery.

According to the warrant:

Sam Newit Richarson Jr. punched a man several times in the face, causing disfiguring injuries.

Richarson also kicked an animal.

The incidents, which were witnessed by a minor, occurred on September 15 at a home on Warren Road.

Richarson is additionally charged with misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals and 3rd-degree cruelty to children.
