Rome Police respond to shooting in North Rome Friday

The Rome Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that occurred Friday evening in North Rome.

According to a Rome Police Department report:

Officers responded to North Broad Street just after 7 p.m. and found Jaylon D’Monte Jester lying in the roadway with wounds to his abdomen and leg.

A business in the plaza provided video footage that showed Jester walk past two other men who were waiting outside the barbershop. Then Jester turns around and approaches one of the men, identified as Nakyaus Cortez Waddell, with a handgun, and then searches Waddell’s pockets before taking out an unknown item, possibly cash. Jester and Waddell began to wrestle until Jester pushed Waddell to the side. The second man, identified as Tremaine Shyjuan Adams, then walked past, went into the barbershop, and returned with a handgun. Adams then began shooting at Jester. Adams and Waddell then left the scene in a blue Dodge Charger. Shortly thereafter, Waddell arrived at the hospital, also suffering from a gunshot wound.

Warrants have been issued for both Adams and Jester for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Gunshots reported in East Rome on Saturday

Rome Police responded to two calls regarding shots being fired in the area of East 15th Street in East Rome on Saturday.

The first incident occurred around at around 3:42 a.m. A woman told police that someone shot toward her house. She got up and saw a black SUV drive off. Police found five 9mm shell casings in the area.

Then at around 4 p.m., there were multiple calls regarding shots being fired in area of East 15th and Flannery Street. Some of the calls stated that the shots came from a black SUV while others said the shots came from a group of young men on foot.

At least one person said the shots were actually fired on East 14th Street.

Officers were not able to locate any shell casings.
