WRGA Staff Reports –
Due to the anticipation of severe weather, all campuses of Georgia Northwestern Technical College will be closed on Tuesday, January 16. All classes, activities, and events are canceled. Unity Christian, Darlington, Georgia Highlands College, and Bartow County Schools have also announced closures.
Rome City Schools issued the following message on Monday afternoon:
“Attention RCS Families: Due to the winter weather advisory for our area that extends throughout the evening into morning hours, we will close the school district on January 16, 2024. All classes and after-school activities will be canceled. Thank you for your cooperation.”
Floyd County Schools also posted the following on Monday:
“Due to the winter weather advisory in effect for our area for the evening and into the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 16, 2024, Floyd County Schools will be closed. All after-school classes and activities will be canceled, as well.
We will continue to monitor the weather and update you all tomorrow regarding the plans for Wednesday, January 17.”
Gordon County Schools and Calhoun City Schools also made the following statement on Monday afternoon:

Murray County Schools also issued a closing statement:
“Murray County Schools will be closed tomorrow Tuesday, January 16, 2024, due to inclement weather. We will continue to monitor the forecast and share an official statement Tuesday afternoon concerning delays or closures for Wednesday, January 17th.”
Whitfield County schools issued a closing statement:
“Due to the severe winter weather conditions, all Whitfield County schools and administrative offices will be closed on Tuesday, January 16. We will continue to monitor the weather closely and alert families of any decisions regarding school operations for the remainder of the week.”
*According to WEIS Radio in Centre, Alabama, Cherokee County Schools (IN ALABAMA) also has issued a closing.
From Paulding County School District:
“The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Paulding County due to a forecast for overnight and into Tuesday morning that may result in freezing rain, ice accumulations, and travel conditions that could impact buses and student drivers. To ensure the safety of our students and staff, all Paulding County schools will shift to a Digital Learning Day on Tuesday, January 16th. All after-school programs have been canceled and students and staff should remain home. District offices will be closed. Maintenance staff should contact their supervisor if they have any questions. We understand that unscheduled changes to the school schedule can impact families, so we do not make this decision lightly. The safety of our 32,000 students and 4,500 staff members is always our highest priority. We look forward to seeing our students and staff back in school when weather conditions improve. “
