The Rome City Commission conducted a first reading for a new coin-operated amusement machine ordinance on Monday, and it will be the Floyd County Commission’s turn to do the same on Tuesday.
The county ordinance is set for first reading Tuesday with a vote coming at the commission’s next meeting later this month.
Assistant County Attorney Chris Jackson recently told members of the public safety committee that the ordinance will have some similarities with the city ordinance.
I have been working, and am continuing to work with the city attorneys, with Andy Davis to try to make our ordinance and their ordinance be as close and similar to each other as possible,” he said. “I think that will help with the public looking at this and dealing with this with enforcement. It will show a unified front to these COAM folks and to the state, our legislators, and everybody, that we’re on the same page with each other.
The county commission will also consider new rates at the Walker Mountain Landfill.
If approved, the fee would go from $35 to $40 a ton for 1,001 to 2,000 pounds.
The rate for 2,000 and over would go from $38 to $46 a ton.
Tuesday’s Floyd County Commission meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the County Administration Building on Fourth Avenue.
The caucus starts at 3:30 p.m. and will include an update on the prison.
