Three Rome teens are facing charges following a police chase in which a shot was fired in West Rome Saturday.
According to Floyd County Jail records and arrest warrants:
18-year-old Diego Escutia-Cruz jumped from the back seat to the front seat of a vehicle and drove off without permission.
He then fled at a high rate of speed, reaching speeds of 99 miles per hour in a 40-mile-per-hour zone,
The vehicle struck a fence and fate in the 900 block of Burnett Ferry Road and Escutia-Cruz and two passengers, 17-year-old Kevin Cruz-Rico and 17-year old 18-year old Adiel Alfredo Granados-Ortiz, fled on foot, all running the same direction.
As they were fleeing, one of the teens fired a gun.
All three are charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.
Escutia-Cruz is additionally charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, felony obstruction, hit and run, theft by taking a motor vehicle, driving while unlicensed, reckless driving, running a stop sign, driving ln the wrong side of the road, speeding, passing in a no passing zone, and criminal trespass with damage to property.
Cruz-Rico is also charged with felony obstruction, as well as possession of a handgun by a person under the age of 18 and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
