A teenager was arrested following a car chase with Floyd County Police in the East Rome area.
Floyd County Police Public Affairs Officer Michael Bell stated that when officers attempted to stop the vehicle, which had been reported stolen, the driver tried to escape.
The driver ran a red light at the intersection of East 9th and Maple, resulting in an accident.
Both the driver and a passenger fled the scene on foot but were apprehended by police within minutes.
Several other local law enforcement agencies assisted in the operation.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
17-year-old Detrick Deontay Morell Jr. of Rome is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, obstruction of officers, theft by receiving stolen property, 2nd-degree criminal damage to property, hit and run, reckless driving, driving without a license, running a stop sign, two counts of driving on the wrong side of the roadway, and five counts of failure to obey a traffic control device.
