The Rome City Commission will meet a week early due to the annual Georgia Municipal Association Conference next week.

During the caucus, which will start early at 3:45 pm Monday, the commission will tour the new police headquarters and municipal courtroom on Technology Parkway.

During the regular meeting at 6:30, the commission will read a proclamation for Juneteenth and conduct several public hearings for zoning applications.

Among those is a request to rezone property on Hardy Avenue from high-density traditional residential to multi-family residential for townhouse development.

The applicant is seeking to construct approximately 28 new units on this parcel and the one in front of it, which fronts South Broad Street.

The plan includes the demolition of an existing residential structure.

Another application seeks to rezone 115 Lookout Circle from community commercial to low-density residential. The applicant is seeking the rezoning for marketing purposes.

Commissioners will also consider a special use permit for a vacant parcel at 205 ABC Reservation Street for the construction of a duplex and the rezoning of 508 and 510 East First Street from office institutional to neighborhood office commercial to allow for the property to be used as office space with a residential unit. The existing parking lot will be merged to allow for the construction of a garage or deck.

Finally, the commission will consider a rezoning request for 401 Glenn Milner Boulevard from neighborhood office commercial to community commercial for a beauty salon.

The applicants applied for a business license to operate a beauty salon and were turned down because the current zoning does not allow beauty salons.
