- A 17-year-old Rome teen was arrested on Calhoun Road Saturday on charges related to battery against a police officer and felony obstruction. According to Floyd County Jail records, Ryan Ayden Matthews was pulled over by Rome Police for a tag light violation. During the traffic stop, it was found that Matthews was driving without a license. When the officer attempted to place Matthews into custody, the teen tried to flee the arrest on foot. The officer managed to subdue Matthews and used a taser to bring him to the ground, where the teen bit the officer on the left forearm. Matthews was arrested and booked into the Floyd County Jail.
- Three Rome men were arrested last Friday near Duke Street and North Broad on felony drug charges. According to Floyd County Jail records, 24-year-old Michael Eugene Ferrell Jr., 35-year-old Markese Markell Ferguson, and 32-year-old Dominque Jontavius Williams were taken into custody after a traffic stop by Floyd County Police. During the stop, officers found two bags of methamphetamine, marijuana, and digital scales. All three men face charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of meth with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, and distribution of marijuana. Additionally, Williams is charged with obstruction and violation of a limited driving permit. Ferguson is also being charged with giving false information to police, failure to appear, and contempt of court.
- A nineteen-year-old Summerville man was arrested and charged with child molestation. According to a recent report by WZQZ Radio, Logan Jayden Pickern was arrested after an investigation by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office. Chattooga Sheriff Mark Schrader said that Pickern was carrying on a sexual relationship with a twelve-year-old child. Pickern was booked into the Chattooga County Jail and was later released on a $50,000 bond.
