WRGA Staff Reports –
The Georgia Department of Transportation announced it has suspended lane closures on Georgia interstates and state routes for the upcoming July 4th holiday weekend.
The suspension will begin at noon (July 3rd) and continue until 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 7th.
During this period, construction-related lane closures will be on hold to facilitate smoother travel. GDOT urges drivers to remain cautious, as crews may still be working near highways, and some long-term lane closures may still be in place due to safety concerns.
Concurrently the Georgia State Patrol is urging everyone to celebrate the Independence Day holiday traveling responsibly.
State Troopers and Officers will be out in full force patrolling the interstates, state routes, and local streets around Georgia during what AAA projects to be the busiest Independence Day holiday period on record.
This year, the holiday travel period is 102 hours long and begins Wednesday, July 3rd at 6 PM, and ends Sunday, July 7th.
