A search for a child ends tragically in Cherokee County, Alabama over the weekend.

Emergency personnel were called to the scene of a missing person in the Hopewell Community near Leesburg at around 5:30 pm Saturday.

Following an extensive search by emergency personnel, the child was located in the water of Weiss Lake around 6:50 pm. 

Atrium EMS Medics attempted to perform life-saving measures – and the child was rushed to Atrium Floyd-Cherokee Medical Center in Centre where she died.
