The Rome City Commission voted Monday to adopt the 2024 millage rate.

For city maintenance and operations, the rate was lowered from 7.8 down to 7.75.

For city capital, the rate is proposed at 1.75 from 1.8.

The rate for Rome City Schools would go from 16.85 to 16.75.

I can’t speak to any specific property but as an example, if you lived in a home that was valued at $150,000 and there’s no change in that home’s assessed value which the city does not control your property tax for the city and city schools would be a decrease of about $12,” said Rome City Manager Sammy Rich.

The millage rate was adopted following a third and final public hearing.

“As we have talked about, any millage rate that is that is above the calculated rollback rate of 24.52 requires us to advertise as a tax increase,” Rich added.  “So, even though we are lowering the rate, we are required by law to advertise.”
