Man accused of stealing car


A North Rome man recently arrested for being in possession of a stolen vehicle has now been charged with stealing that vehicle.

According to Floyd County Jail records and an arrest warrant:

20-year-old James Bertrume Jester was caught on surveillance video entering Car Mart on Martha Berry Boulevard after the business had closed.

He then entered several vehicles and took the 2002 Mazda 6 valued at $2,150.

Jester is charged with theft by taking a motor vehicle, entering an auto, and loitering or prowling.

Woman charged with false statements

A South Rome woman who reportedly drove into a building in the area of East 12th Street and Walnut Avenue last month is also facing a felony charge of false statements and writings.

According to an arrest warrant and Floyd County Jail records:

31-year-old Markeya Kenyell Dukes told police that she was not associated with the vehicle involved in the accident and then gave her mother’s name and date of birth during the accident investigation.

Dukes is also charged with giving a false name and improper turn.
