[VIDEO] One dead in crash involving motorcycle and City of Rome public works truck

Wednesday afternoon a fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Harvey Street and Calhoun Avenue on North Broad Street. The accident involved a motorcycle and a City of Rome Solid Waste vehicle. Traffic on North Broad Street and Copeland Street was blocked off by Rome Police, detouring both inbound and outbound traffic around the area.

From the Georgia State Patrol:

“On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 4:50 pm, Troopers from Post 38 Rome responded to a two-vehicle crash on GA 53 at Calhoun Avenue, in Floyd County. 

A Ford F750 Utility Truck (City of Rome Public Works) was traveling north on GA 53 attempting to turn left onto Harvey Street while a JiaJue 150 motorbike was traveling south on GA 53. 

The driver of the F750 turned left in front of the bike, which struck the rear of the F750. 

The driver of the bike was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. 

The Georgia State Patrol Troop A Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating.”
