Man charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer

A 27-year-old North Rome man was arrested at the courthouse Thursday on five counts of felony obstruction and a single count of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

John Hilaire struck a deputy about the face and head, leaving deep scratches and what appeared to be a blood blister to the deputy’s left eye.

The injuries resulted in the deputy having to seek medical attention.

Three arrested on drug charges at probation office

Three people were arrested at the Rome Probation Office on Marable Way Thursday on drug charges.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Methamphetamine, approximately 20 hydrocodone pills, and a glass smoking device were found during a vehicle search.

53-year-old Henry Lamar Ferguson, 61-year-old Lula Ann Whittenberry, and 44-year-old Misty Dawn Lopez, all of Rome, are charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute.

The report for Lopez indicated that suspected fentanyl was also confiscated.

Ferguson and Lopez are also charged with a probation violation.

Man accused of making threat

A West Rome resident has been arrested on a felony warrant charging him with terroristic threats and acts.

According to the warrant:

19-year-old Christopher Jaiden Yanes sent a text message threatening to shoot and kill the victim and possibly shoot up the Lowes,s in West Rome.

Woman charged with false statements and writings

A Rome woman is accused of using someone else’s name while trying to get a driver’s license back in January of 2017.

According to an arrest warrant:

49-year-old Hilma E. Maldonado Escobar also used the other person’s date of birth and Social Security number on the license application at the Department of Driver’s Services office on Martha Berry Highway. 

Escobar is charged with false statements and writings.

Stolen firearm leads to arrest

A 19-year-old accused of running from police in the area of Camp Street and North Broad is also accused of possessing a stolen firearm.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Jamal Daeshawn Branch also had suspected cocaine and a digital scale.

Branch is charged with theft by receiving stolen property, possession of cocaine, possession of drug-related objects, and misdemeanor obstruction of officers.

Cedartown man accused of having stolen Ruger

A Cedartown man who was a passenger in a vehicle stopped on East 17th Street for no headlights has been charged with theft by receiving stolen property.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

20-year-old Nehemiah Isaiah Deshaun Beeman fled on foot.

Once caught, a Ruger was found during a pat down.

The gun had been reported stolen in Decatur.

Man charged in marijuana conspiracy

A 21-year-old Rome man was jailed Thursday on a felony warrant charging him with conspiracy or attempt to violate Georgia’s Controlled Substances Act.

According to the warrant:

Darrius Marques Bradford conspired with another man to sell, distribute or possess marijuana back on September 21, 2023.
