Man charged with aggravated assault
A 37-year-old West Rome man has been arrested on a felony warrant charging him with aggravated assault.
According to the warrant:
Zachary Ralph Burke Sr. attacked another man with a blunt object, believed to be a baseball bat.
The victim was struck in the head and back multiple times.
The incident occurred on August 13 at a location on Drummond Drive.
Man already in jail charged with theft by taking
A Rome man is accused of selling stolen property on social media.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
32-year-old Sean Peyton Swader listed the property on the site with one item being sold.
The value of the stolen property was listed at $1,700.
Swader is charged with theft by taking.
He has been in jail since July following his arrest for allegedly throwing a large rock through the front glass door at Dollar General on Calhoun Road and stealing a large bucket of merchandise valued at $380.
Teen accused of stealing vehicle
A teenager, already in jail, has been charged in the theft of a vehicle back on July 15.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
17-year-old Josiah Trevon Smith admitted during questioning that he stole a 2012 Hyundai Elantra, valued at $3,500, from a location on Rising Fawn Trail.
Smith was initially arrested on July 19 after allegedly stealing a vehicle from West Little Indian Trail.
He was also found with a stolen firearm, according to that report.
Man charged with fleeing, drug possession
A Rome man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly fled from police before abandoning his vehicle.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
An officer attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Joshua Dante Wade for an obscured license plate and failed to maintain a lane in the area of Dwinnell Street and Heard Street.
Wade fled and then abandoned the vehicle, which continued to roll down the street and crash.
He was then found with multiple pills believed to be Percocet and Adderall.
Wade is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, possession of Schedule II controlled substance, possession of pills not in the original container, reckless driving, obstruction of officers, failure to maintain a lane, a license plate violation, and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
Woman charged with felony obstruction
A 29-year-old West Rome woman is accused of kicking a police officer during her arrest on Friday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Mary Kathryn Gibbons pushed a family member while arguing in front of a child, and then got violent with the officer.
She is charged with felony obstruction, simple battery, and 3rd-degree cruelty to children.
More charges for burglary suspect
Additional charges have been filed in a burglary at Foss Manufacturing on Kirton Street in West Rome that occurred on September 5.
43-year-old Michael Gregory Cummings of Rome was initially arrested on Wednesday on a 2nd-degree burglary charge.
He is now also charged with 2nd-degree criminal damage to property, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, and theft by taking.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Cummings caused around $10,000 in damage to the building and stole $9,200 in property, including replacement fire sprinkler heads, wiring, copper piping, breakers, and batteries belonging to forklifts and fire alarm systems.
