Man accused of raping family member

A West Rome man has been arrested on felony warrants charging him with rape and incest.

According to the warrants:

28-year-old Marvin Benjamin Escobar Vargas raped a woman while she was intoxicated and passed out.

The incident occurred between September 20 and September 21 at Vargas’ residence on Coosawattee Avenue.

Warrant: Man cut another man’s finger with a knife

A North Rome man is accused of assaulting another man with a knife on Howell Street back on September 22.

According to the arrest warrants:

40-year-old Mark Thomas Scofield cut the victim’s finger, disfiguring it with a knife.

Scofield is charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery.

Man charged with vehicle theft

A West Rome man is facing charges of theft by taking a motor vehicle and obstruction of officers following his arrest Wednesday.

According to the arrest warrants:

27-year-old Gryphon Michael Graham took a 2004 Ford Ranger from a location on Paris Lane on September 22.

Graham then fled on foot to avoid being detained.

Graham is also being held on a couple of counts of contempt of superior court.

Man accused of defacing fire truck

A homeless man is accused of vandalizing a Rome-Floyd County Fire Department truck.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

54-year-old Scott Anthony Cofer used a permanent marker to write “Piece of crap” on the fire truck.

He is charged with a misdemeanor count of interference with government property.

Teens charged with having THC on school property

Two teenagers are facing misdemeanor charges after they were reportedly found with an electronic smoking device containing THC oil at Pepperell High School Wednesday afternoon.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

17-year-old Ariella Davina Lopez and 17-year-old Emma Lei Ashley, both of Lindale, are charged with possession of a THC vapor product while under the age of 21, and possession of THC on school grounds.

Men accused of failing to register as sex offenders

Two Rome men were arrested Wednesday on felony warrants charging them with violating Georgia’s Sex Offender Registry law.

According to the warrants:

53-year-old Jimmy Lamar Jones Jr. was arrested at his Lyons Drive apartment.

He is accused of not registering with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office after gaining employment on August 28.

Meanwhile, 69-year-old Derrick Ian Kenrick was arrested at his Mathis Road home.

He reportedly failed to register his Chevy C1500 with the sheriff’s office, as is required by state law.
