Report: Man drove off with officer holding on to vehicle

An East Rome man is facing multiple charges including felony obstruction of law enforcement and fleeing or attempting to elude following his arrest Sunday on Haley Drive.

According to Floyd County jail records:

Police responded to the scene after 40-year-old Benjamin Parker Berry shoved a woman and slapped a cell phone out of her hand before grabbing a teenager by the head.

Berry then used a crowbar and hammers to damage the closet walls of the residence and a gun safe.

When police encountered Berry, he got in his car, which was parked on the wrong side of the street, and started it.

Berry then started driving down the street with the police officer holding onto him and the steering wheel.

Once the vehicle stopped, Berry tried to run.

He was found with cyclobenzaprine and while being medically cleared at the hospital, he had to be restrained after trying to pull away from police.

Berry is also charged with simple assault, simple battery, obstructing a person from making a 911 call, criminal trespass, misdemeanor obstruction, disorderly conduct, possession of drugs not in the original container, possession of dangerous drugs, DUI, and improper parking.
