It looks like an Academy Sports will be filling in some recently vacated space at Midtown Crossing on Shorter Avenue, the shopping center that also houses Hobby Lobby and Staples.
Building site plans for the location, the former Shorter University business school at 232 Shorter Ave., calls for what will be the sports retail chain’s 21st Georgia store, according to the Academy website.
Workers are currently on location demolishing much of the area inside the building for what appears to be a renovation. TD Farrell Construction Inc. has been awarded the contract and plans can be seen on their website.
Brooke Murski, the Georgia media contact for the Katy, Texas-based company, indicated that the store is planned for a 2025 opening, potentially later in the year.
