The Floyd County Commission will have a called meeting next week to adopt the Fiscal Year 2025 budget.

Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord went over some of the budget numbers on Tuesday.

There have been a lot of changes in the last couple of weeks, or months, actually, as far as salaries,” he said. “We did do across-the-board increases in late 2024. However, we did tighten up on projected revenues and expenditures for 2025. In the last two years, 41 positions—29 last year and 12 more are being considered for elimination. Not physical people, but budgeted positions.”

Current-year property taxes are conservatively projected at $39.1 million with anticipated collections budgeted at 94 percent.

“There are some slight decreases in our revenues across the board, but overall, we will be up 1.61 percent, which is basically flat,” McCord said. “I would just like to note—I know that nobody likes to pay taxes but everybody wants services, and that’s just the nature of this. However, our projected current-year taxes for 2025 are $39.1 million, and our overall budget for public safety is $39.3 million. That does not include 911, animal control, and emergency management.”

.In addition to public safety, judicial, and fire the fund, there are also increases in spending for public works, general government, and recreation.

Spending for housing and development and health and welfare are both down while interagency culture is flat.

Again, the budget will be adopted during a called meeting on December 19 at 8 a.m. in the Community Room, Suite 206 of the Floyd County Administration building located on East Fourth Avenue.
