In anticipation of wintry weather in the forecast for Friday morning, Rome Public Works Director Chris Jenkins said public works crews will start treating local roads today.

“We will start hitting the high-traffic areas,” he said. “Places like bridges, around the hospitals, some of the nursing homes, and law enforcement centers to make sure they are good and safe.”

According to Jenkins, the Georgia Department of Transportation has already been out, treating the state routes.

“GDOT is responsible for those state routes,” he added. “In Rome, we have 239 local roads and 34 state routes that run through our city. GDOT has really stepped up their snow maintenance since ‘Snowmageddon’ in 2014 and they’ve really come in and used the brine system on the state routes.  We will respond because we know GDOT cannot be everywhere and if it’s somewhere we can get to quickly, we will.”
