One person is dead following a single-vehicle crash near the Alabama state line early Monday morning.

A Cherokee County, Alabama Sheriff’s Deputy had been pursuing a Chevrolet Camaro on Alabama State Route 20, crossing into Floyd County.

After losing sight of the vehicle in Georgia, the deputy turned around and traveled back toward the Alabama line.

That is he located the Camaro, which had crashed into a fence and was on fire.

The investigation determined that the Camaro was traveling east, negotiating a curve to the right, and exited the left side of the roadway.

The Camaro struck a ditch with its front and continued east along the ditch before striking a culvert.

The impact with the the culvert caused the Camaro to vault over a driveway and struck several fence posts.

The impact with the fence post caused the Camaro to overturn several times before ejecting the driver towards the ditch.

The Camaro came to final rest, facing west, and became fully engulfed in flames.

The driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

There was no contact with the patrol car during the pursuit. The GSP’s Specialized Crash Reconstruction Team was notified and responded to the crash scene.
