A Bartow County man is facing a vehicular homicide charge following a wreck that led to the death of a Gordon County motorcyclist.

According to Calhoun Police Department and Gordon County Jail reports:

Hakan Ikinci, 40, of Adairsville, was arrested Friday evening after a fatal wreck on Highway 53 near the Calhoun Chick-fil-A involving a vehicle driven by Ikinci and a motorcycle.

“The investigation determined that a vehicle turned in front of an oncoming motorcycle, resulting in a crash,” Calhoun Police Chief Tony Pyle said. “Tragically, the motorcyclist did not survive.”

Saturday morning, the Gordon County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the man killed in the wreck was Landon Baker, 26, of Calhoun.

“Our office will continue to work with the City of Calhoun Police Department as their investigation continues and with the Baker family during this difficult time,” Coroner Nick Blalock said.

Ikinci was booked into the Gordon County Jail Friday evening, initially charged with second-degree homicide by vehicle and vehicle turning left — both misdemeanors.

Pyle said the incident remains under investigation by the Calhoun Police Department’s Traffic Unit.
