-Georgia Department of Transportation-

The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded a contract for the installation of a stop-controlled restricted crossing U-turn on State Route 53 at Brownlee Mountain Road and Plainville Road in Gordon County.

Also known as an R-cut, the intersection design seeks to reduce crashes by changing how minor road traffic crosses or turns left at a major road.

At an RCUT, minor road traffic must turn right. Left turns and through movements from the minor road are accomplished through the use of a downstream U-turn.

All movements are allowed from the major road.

Bartow Paving was the low bidder on the project at just over $3.98 million.

The anticipated completion date is March of 2026.
