Several Rome City Schools were recently recognized for participating in the Georgia Department
of Education’s statewide service initiative Georgia Schools Care.

Elm Street, West End, Anna K. Davie, East Central, and West Central Elementary schools all received honors for participating in the program, which raised money to help support disadvantaged children through a partnership with Clark’s Christmas Kids.

All told, the schools raised more than $2,400 for the initiative, which ran from November to mid-December.

“I sincerely appreciate every student, staff, educator, and community member who contributed to
this worthy cause,” Superintendent Woods said. “This initiative was designed to provide all within education the opportunity to make an impact on those around us. It was an opportunity for us as an educational family to give hope, add value to those in need, and allow us to make a genuine difference in the lives of others. Even though the personal sacrifice may seem small, the collective efforts of all were substantial.”

Clark’s Christmas Kids has been dedicated to bringing joy to foster children during the holiday season for over three decades. Their mission centers around ensuring that every child in the Georgia foster care system receives a Christmas gift, fostering a sense of love and belonging.

Elm Street received Diamond Star School recognition with West End earning Gold Star School recognition. Anna K. Davie, East Central and West Central all received Bronze Star School recognition.

The recognition is based on the percentage of the school participating, with a minimum donation from students and staff.

“We are proud of all of our staff and students who helped support this important cause. It’s truly great to be able to give back to others,” Rome City Schools Superintendent Dr. Eric L. Holland said. “Rome City Schools wants to be on the forefront of not only educational leadership but also making sure we give back as a community to those in need.”
