The Georgia gas price average rose at the pumps compared to a week ago.

Georgians now pay an average price of $2.94 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline, which is 5 cents more than a week ago, but still 5 cents less than a month ago, and 41 cents less than last year. It costs drivers an average of $44.10 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Georgians are paying almost $7.00 less to fill up at the pump than a year ago.

“Typically, gas prices drop if demand is low and crude oil is cheaper. Unfortunately, not this time,” said Montrae Waiters, AAA- The Auto Club Group spokeswoman. “Some refineries are switching to summer blend gasoline, which works better in the heat and costs more to make. However, there is still good news. Georgia drivers are paying 18 cents less than the national average of $3.12.”

Local averages on Monday were $2.87 in Floyd County and Gordon County, $2.81 in Chattooga County, $2.89 in Polk County, and $2.94 in Bartow County.
