Rome City Commission meets Monday

Monday, March 24, 2025–7:20 a.m.

-Staff reports-

A new spay-neuter-microchip mandate ordinance is slated for a first reading when the Rome City Commission meets Monday night.

As written, the ordinance would require cats over 4-months old and dogs over the age of 6-months that to be spayed or neutered and micro-chipped.

There are exceptions for breeders and working animals like hunting dogs, or if the animal has a health condition that would prevent it from safely being altered.

The ordinance is similar to the one the county commission approved in 2023.

A second reading and vote on the ordinance will take place during the commission’s next meeting.

Also Monday, commissioners will vote on a rezoning request for property on Hull Avenue.

The planning commission is recommending denial of the application to change the zoning from High-Density Residential to Light Industrial to allow for the construction of a 30×30 metal storage building for lawn and garden equipment.

Other agenda items include resolutions to rename Vail Parkway off Technology Parkway to Eagle Way, and to close streets and alleys in Oakdene.

Monday’s city commission meeting begins at 6:30 pm at Rome City Hall.

The caucus begins at 5 pm and will include an executive session to discuss real estate.
