An apartment fire on Wednesday afternoon that claimed the life of a 3-year-old child remains under investigation.
According to Rome Fire Marshal Mary Catherine Chewning, early indications are that the fire at the Redmond Chase Apartments on Redmond Road was accidental.
Firefighters arrived on the scene and found heavy smoke coming from the second floor of the apartment.
The 3-year-old child’s mother was transported to the hospital for treatment, and another child was transported to a burn center.
The blaze caused extensive damage to the apartment.
