Floyd County Public Works is gearing up for a number of road paving projects this year.

The first is likely to be Blacks Bluff Road.

This is from Highway 100 out there—Fosters Mill—going to Brushy Branch,” said Floyd County Public Works Director Michael Skeen. “That is about a three-and-a-half mile run. We did the other side of Brushy Branch a year ago and this will complete that section of Black Bluff.”

Other projects include the front end of Wax Road coming toward town, which is a little over three miles.

Wayside Road is another big project.

“That’s from Ward Mountain coming back into Calhoun Road,” Skeen said. “You are talking over ten miles, probably. Then, Cave Spring Road, if you ever take that from Park Road down to Walker Mountain, that’s the longest road that we have on our paving schedule this year.”

There are also a number of neighborhood roads on this year’s paving list.

“I think its Coosa Hills behind the high school out there—the substation back there was being rebuilt last year, “ Skeen said. “Ewe had the money; we had the money to do that last year, but we wanted to wait until they finished that construction. We are looking forward to getting that done. We’ve got some others, like a couple of roads in Hamtpn East, Riverside, and Shannon. so, we are going to be all over the place.”

According to Skeen, the county is in the very unusual situation of having more money for paving than they can get done this year.

He said they could consider outsourcing some of the work, but he’s not sure they will, because it costs more.
