The City of Rome is waiting to see what the state does before deciding what action to take regarding businesses cited for cash payouts from coin operated amusements machines.

On February 11, 23 stores in the city were cited by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

During a recent Rome Alcohol Control Commission meeting, Major Mark Tison with the Rome Police Department said one of the establishments—the Rome Mini Mart at 1410 North Broad Street–has settled with the State of Georgia.

They received a penalty of $16,000 and lost their COAM license for two years.

The other twenty-two establishments will be addressed by the State at a later time.

This is Rome’s first foray into COAM violations.

Rome City Clerk Joe Smith said that no new COAM licenses will be issued at those locations until the local and state violations are resolved.
