NEWS RELEASE
Public Animal Welfare Services (P.A.W.S.) will begin offering community outreach sessions to engage the public on local animal control ordinances and state laws. The first class kicks off on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the P.A.W.S. facility located at 99 North Avenue, Rome. Registration is open to 25 participants. Those interested can reserve their spot by emailing [email protected].
The session will begin with a brief tour of the facility. Featured topics will include enforcement, policies, and protocols for strays, injured animals, aggressive or dangerous animals, abandonment, and animal surrenders. The session will also include an overview of the rescue transport program and how it is essential to the needs of the shelter. Citizens will have the opportunity to meet with Animal Control Officers and the Rescue Coordinator to address questions or concerns. P.A.W.S. Director Jeff Mitchell will explain the animal welfare changes taking place in shelters across the country, along with statistics on the increase of live outcomes, strays, and return to owner.
“We are looking forward to this community outreach and hope that there will be enough interest and engagement to continue these sessions monthly.” PA.W.S. Director Jeff Mitchell says. “We believe this collaboration between P.A.W.S. and the public will help us to better serve the citizens of Floyd County.”
