Rome Police are on the scene of what at this time appears to be a murder-suicide.

According to Rome Police:

At around 7:00 a.m., officers were dispatched to a reported accident with injury near the Chick-fil-a on Shorter Avenue.

Prior to arrival, officers received more information that the incident was a shooting rather than an accident.

Initial investigation indicates that a man shot a woman and then shot himself.

The incident is not related to Chick-fil-a but rather occurred on the property of the restaurant.

The westbound lanes of Shorter Avenue were blocked for a while this morning and traffic was diverted through the Hobby Lobby parking lot. Shorter Avenue is now open again, but Chick-fil-a remains closed as police are on the scene investigating.
