Calhoun Avenue shooting victim dies, suspect now charged with murder

 A man arrested in connection with a shooting earlier this week is now charged with murder after the critically injured victim dies.

43-year-old Anderous Mendrall Cunningham was initially charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime after he was taken into custody on Tuesday shortly after the shooting.

The victim, 50-year-old Johnny Napoleon Gibbs, was transported to Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center with a single gunshot wound to the head.

According to Floyd County Coroner Gene Proctor, Gibbs was pronounced dead at 2:55 p.m. on Wednesday.

His body is being sent to the GBI Crime Lab.

Cunningham remains in the Floyd County Jail.
