The Floyd County Board of Elections and Registrations has voted to delegate more responsibilities to elections supervisor Akyn Trudnak.
She will now be responsible for the hiring and training of poll workers.
“That will be like the hiring, the maintaining, and the training of our poll workers,” Trudnak told the board. “It’s listed as a poll officer, but it’s just a poll worker. Does that make sense? It’s not necessary. I guess you guys could come in and train poll workers and hire them, but I think it would be beneficial for everyone’s use of time if you pass those specific duties on to me.”
Trudnak is a career elections official and frequently attends national and statewide training.
“I think it’s important that someone who has done that training is the one who hires the poll workers,” she said. “Not that you guys [the board] aren’t amazing.”
According to Georgia law, since Floyd County has a joint elections and registration board, the board members are actually considered the superintendents and Trudnak is a designee of the board.
There are some things she cannot do, like certify election results and vote on matters that come before the board.
