Report: Man threatened to rob downtown food mart

A 42-year-old Rome man has been arrested on charges of robbery, terroristic threats and acts, simple battery, and obstruction of officers.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Terry Marcus Highfield Jr. tried to enter the Downtown Food Mart at 610 Broad Street while yelling “I’m Rob, and I’m going to rob the place.”

When the store clerk tried to close the door to keep Highfield from coming in, Highfield lunged at the clerk as if he was going to fight him.

Highfield then refused commands from the police.

During the altercation Highfield dropped a meth pipe, resulting in an additional charge of possession of drug-related objects.

Once in the patrol vehicle, he then threatened to shoot the officer.

Teen charged with burglary at former Cave Spring Elementary

A Rome teen is accused of breaking into the former Cave Spring Elementary School building in August of last year.

According to the arrest warrant:

Police arrived to find a piece of wood covering a window had been kicked in.

17-year-old Reece Tillman Fuller was seen exiting the building through a window.

Fuller is charged with 2nd-degree burglary.

Caretaker accused of stealing from elderly woman

A 19-year-old has been arrested after allegedly stealing $16,440 from an 84-year-old woman.

According to the arrest warrants:

Hynslei Brooke Fuller was hired to be the victim’s caretaker.

Between September 8 and October 16, she forged 18 checks belonging to the victim.

Several of the checks were for $1,500.

On others, the original dollar amount had been changed.

Fuller then deposited the money into her own account.

She is charged with exploitation of the elderly, 3rd-degree forgery, and felony theft by taking.

Man charged with aggravated animal cruelty

A 52-year-old Rome man is accused of abandoning an animal

According to the arrest warrant:

Phil Stanley Storey Jr. left a dog behind after he was evicted from an Agnes Street residence.

The dog was emaciated and was infested with fleas.

In addition, the dog had yeast infections in open wounds on the tips of his ears.

Storey is charged with a felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals.

Man charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

A 23-year-old Rome man has been arrested on a felony warrant charging him with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to the warrant:

On October 5, Tremaine Shyjuan Adams was seen on camera at a location on North Broad Street with a handgun.

Adams is also charged with a probation violation.
