Rome man arrested for Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers

A 46-year-old Rome man was arrested early Monday morning at his Summerstone Drive home after he allegedly resisted arrest.

According to Floyd County Jail records, Steven Clay Couey was intoxicated and was being physically and verbally abusive to a family member.

The accused placed his hand around the victim’s neck causing red marks on her chest.

Children were also reportedly present during this incident.

When Police came to arrest Couey, he refused his handcuffs and fought the officers as they had to force him to the floor.

The report states that Couey also kicked a medical jail officer upon being examined later.

Steven Couey’s charges include felony obstruction of officers, battery, 3rd-degree cruelty to children, public drunkenness, and disorderly conduct.
