State Senator Chuck Hufsteler has been recognized by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia for his efforts during the last legislative session.
During a Floyd County Commission meeting earlier this week, Dante Handel with the ACCG presented Hufststler with a 2024 Legislative Service Award.
“He has done a tremendous job for the local governments, especially for the counties,” Handel said. “We are very grateful for his work on House Bill 581, a taxpayer-friendly piece of legislation that I think is going to make a very large positive impact statewide, and also included all four ACC‘s revenue and finance priority items this past year.”
House Bill 581 would restrict assessment increases on homesteaded property to 3 percent annually beginning on January 1, 2025, following a statewide referendum.
Also during Tuesday’s meeting, Floyd County Commission Chair Allison Watters thanked Hufstetler for his work with the commission.
“When we text you or call you, you are quick answer and you are responsive in the sense that you get what we’re asking and then you do what you can to help us,” Watters told Hufstetler. “We sincerely appreciate that. Thank you.”
Hufstetler then recognized the commission for their work.
“I did it for eight years, and I know how hard it is,” he said. “I know that you cannot make everyone happy. Sometimes, you can’t make anyone happy. You are right here, where the rubber meets the road, and I will do anything I can down there to make your jobs easier.”
Hufstetler served on the county commission from 1999 through 2006, serving as chair in 2003 and 2004.
