Isakson to deliver farewell address on Senate floor Tuesday

December 2, 2019–9:45 a.m.

NEWS RELEASE

U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., will deliver his farewell address on the floor of the U.S. Senate on Tuesday at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Isakson’s remarks will be available to view live on television on C-SPAN2 or through the Senate floor webcast at https://www.senate.gov/floor/.

Isakson’s remarks will be followed by tributes from other senators during a formal colloquy led by U.S. Senator David Perdue, R-Ga., on the Senate floor.

On Aug. 28, Isakson announced that he would resign from the U.S. Senate on Dec. 31 because of health issues. His resignation will bring to a close a 45-year career in public service. In 2016, Isakson won re-election with 54% of the vote and became the first Republican in Georgia to be elected to a third term in the U.S. Senate. After more than three decades in the real estate business, Isakson became the only elected official in Georgia to serve in the Georgia House, the Georgia Senate, the U.S. House, and the U.S. Senate.
