Centre Man Charged With 2nd Degree Assault On A Police Officer After Biting A Centre Officer On Friday

(Via WEIS) Centre Police Chief Kirk Blankenship says that 32 year old Benjamin Callen Wissler is behind bars after he bit an officer on Friday. Chief Blankenship said that his officers were dispatched to the area of West Main Street near Cherokee Glass to check a suspicious white male after concerned citizens reported they were afraid he was going to get ran over.

Sgt.Riley Combs and Officer Zach Fife located Wissler inside the La Cabana Mexican Restaurant, when Sgt.CombsĀ  attempted to question Wissler, Wissler swung at Combs. At that point officers attempted to detain him and at one point during the scuffle, Wissler bit Officer Fife on the neck breaking the skin.

Officers were finally able to get Wissler in handcuffs and he was taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center where he was booked in on charges of 2nd Degree Assault on a Police Officer, Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest. He remains in jail on a $5,600 bond.
