Floyd County celebrates African American History Month

January 19, 2021–10:32 a.m.

NEWS RELEASE

“If you want to be important – wonderful.  If you want to be recognized – wonderful.  If you want to be great – wonderful.  But recognize that he who is greatest among you shall be a servant.  That’s a new definition of greatness.  By giving that definition of greatness, it means that everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.” – Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

February is recognized as African American History Month across the United States, and Floyd County would like to recognize members of our community who have made an impact.

Citizens such as Professor Edward S. Brown, Henry Chubb, members of the 1963 Student Sit-Ins, Elgin Carmichael, Napoleon Fielder, Judy Sims, Samuel Burrell, and the many others who created a legacy of leadership, courage, and citizenship that helped shape Floyd County into the place it is today.

Last year’s recipients included Pastor Carey Ingram and Brenton Whatley.

We invite the community to help us celebrate African American History Month by nominating Floyd County citizens who continue to serve the greater good.

Submissions will be chosen, and those citizens will be recognized by the Floyd County Commission at their 6:00 pm meeting on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.

Nomination forms can be found at https://romefloyd.com/departments/county-clerk-s-office.

Please return to the Floyd County Clerk’s office, 12 East 4th Avenue, Suite 210, Rome, GA 30161 or submit by email to [email protected] no later than Friday, February 12, 2021.
