The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced that Bartow County has been recommended to receive a Georgia Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant in the amount of $150,000. This grant is pending approval by the United States National Park Service. The application for a mountain bike trail, if approved, will provide a new source of recreation for the citizens of Bartow County.
The Georgia DNR states that, “The LWCF grant program assists cities, counties, state, and federal agencies and recreation commissions and authorities in acquiring, developing, and renovating outdoor recreation lands and facilities. The LWCF is fully administered by DNR and is a federal grant program funded by earnings from offshore oil and gas leasing.”
This year, seventy-six applications were submitted, and twenty-seven were selected, creating a net economic impact of 17.8 million dollars on the State of Georgia’s parks and outdoor recreation areas.
