The Rome City Commission will hold the first of three public hearings regarding the millage rate when they meet Monday night.
Although there will be no millage rate increase, three public hearings will be held in accordance with state law because the revenue generated by the tax levies will be greater than last year.
Also tonight, a downtown open container trial period is slated to go onto first reading.
Since this is a first reading, there will not be a vote or a public hearing.
That will come when a second reading during the commission’s next meeting.
The request from the Rome Downtown Development Authority is to allow consumption on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. from August 5 to October 30.
During Monday’s commission caucus, Alli Mitchell with the United Way of Rome and Floyd County will give an update.
The caucus begins at 5 p.m. with the Rome City Commission’s regular meeting to start at 6:30 p.m. at Rome City Hall.
