Gordon Sheriff Reinstates COVID 19 Precautions Due to Resurgence

August 24th, 2021 – 3:00 PM

Staff Reports –

According to Gordon County Sheriff Mitch Ralston:

Effective immediately, the Gordon Sheriff’s Office is reinstating certain precautions designed to reduce the danger of the spread of the COVID 19 virus:

  1. All in-person visitation at the Jail is suspended. Inmates will still have access to telephone and email service to communicate with family and friends.
  2. The Jail lobby will be closed to the public. Persons requiring assistance with inmate or jail matters will be met by a Sheriff’s Office staff member at the (Jail) front door.
  3. The business office lobby will be closed to the public. Persons requiring law enforcement assistance should call 911 for service, or the Sheriff’s Office general telephone number (706-629-1244) to reach specific staff members.
  4. All inmate work details are suspended.

While there have been no generalized ‘outbreaks’ of the virus at the jail or among staff, we feel that out of an abundance of caution it is in the best interest of the public, the staff, and the inmate population that we reinstate the guidelines to ensure the highest level of safety possible, as COVID 19 is obviously in resurgence in our country, state, and community.
