Rome Public Safety Committee to discuss downtown security Thursday

September 1, 2021–7:50 p.m.

STAFF REPORTS

There will be a specially-called meeting of the Rome Public Safety Committee Thursday evening.

The purpose of the meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Rome City Auditorium, is to discuss safety concerns in Downtown Rome.

There have been a number of incidents involving unsupervised juveniles in the downtown area.

The most recent was on August 14, when police responded to several fights.

The Rome City Commission is scheduled to vote on a change in the curfew ordinance during their September 13 meeting.

If approved, the curfew would go from 11 p.m. to 10 p.m.

It would still apply to anyone under the age of 17 who is without adult supervision.
