Doug Walker has been selected as the grand marshal for the 2021 Rome Christmas Parade.
The announcement was made during a breakfast Tuesday morning at the Coosa Country Club.
“Each year the Committee takes nominations from the public of citizens who have gone above and beyond to give back to our community.

Walker is currently the public information officer for the City of Rome.
Walker was born in Arlington, Virginia, and graduated from Auburn University with a double major in Communications and Journalism.
He started his career in the US Civil Service Commission in Washington DC and then moved to Waycross Georgia as News Director for WAYX.
He was the news director at WRGA and Q-102 for many years.
Walker was also an associate editor at the Rome News-Tribune from 2009 to 2021.
He has won a number of awards for journalism and has served the community on the board of directors for the Rome-Floyd Commission on Children and Youth, Chieftains Museum, and the Heritage Riverways Foundation.
