CITY OF ROME

Although we did not see any tornadoes in Floyd County, the area did have some severe thunderstorms that blew through Wednesday night.

The heavy rains and gusty winds brought down trees, resulting in power outages.

One tree fell across Bells Ferry Road and damaged City of Rome utility lines (pictured).

City crews were out early Thursday, cleaning up and making repairs.

Another tree fell across US 27 South just past Maple Road, which also had to be removed.

At the height of the storm, Georgia Power reported more than 40 power outages in Rome and Floyd County, affecting more than 3,000 customers.

The largest outage impacted over 1,600 customers and was located along the bypass from Turner Chapel Road up to Kingston Highway, Calhoun Road, and Highway 53. The impacted area also included Wayside Road and Bells Ferry Road.

Some other areas impacted include Mt. Alto Road, Wilkerson Road, Rosewood Road, Sherwood Road, and Westmore Road, all off Shorter Avenue.

Another outage was in South Rome in the area of Porter Street, Nixon Avenue, Hardy Avenue, and Wilson Avenue.

Around 121 customers lost power in the area East 2nd Avenue, East 2nd Street, East 4th Avenue, and Glen Milner Boulevard.

Another 122 were without power in the area of Old Dalton Road.

As of 11:30 a.m., there were just nine outages impacting 155 customers in Floyd County.
